When it comes to personal finances and money, the saying “if it seems too good to be true, then it probably is” should always be in the back of your mind. That still doesn’t keep people for falling for scams as this British show reveals when it sets up a computer scam:

To help avoid falling for a similar scam, the video’s advice that you should always get a receipt (with the stores contact information) that details the work to be done is sound. I would also include:

  • If the advertisement was found on a flyer or in a free newspaper rather than a paid advertisement in a mainstream media outlet, you should be extra careful and go in assuming it’s a scam (and make them prove it otherwise).
  • A quick Internet search for the company in your areas Better Business Bureau can help confirm they are legit. If the BBB doesn’t know about the company, start raising those red flags.
